Summary of Goals and Objectives

STP Student Liaisons serve as the point of contact between the STP and their academic institutions.  Liaisons are expected to work with an STP mentor and the Student Outreach and Engagement Taskforce (SOETF) to disseminate information about the STP to veterinary students and other trainees (residents/graduate students), to interface with the ACVP Student Chapter leaders, pathology residents, and the pathology faculty to encourage participation in STP-focused programs (such as the Speakers/Training Institutions Program, STIP) and to promote STP awareness among researchers and pathologists at their school.

Liaison duties include:

Expand >>

  • Arrange STP-sponsored activities, including at least one annual lecture/workshop for interested students through the STP-STIP program.
  • Disseminate STP literature and announcements of award opportunities and meetings
  • Collaborate with your STP mentor
  • Promote STP membership and engagement among students and trainees
  • Attend/report at quarterly SOETF teleconferences
  • Issue an annual report to the STP summarizing activities and outreach efforts (Due in April)

Liaison benefits include:

  • Free STP student membership
    • Free registration to annual STP meetings,
    • Electronic access to the Journal of Toxicologic Pathology
    • Advanced notice of STP student awards and scholarships
  • Opportunities to apply for a competitive Travel award for Student Liaisons
    • Criteria for selection of awardees:
      • Annual report submitted to the STP complete and on-time
      • Consistent reporting on activities to STP mentor(s) & SOETF – at least once per semester
      • At least one STIP visit to the representative institution that is at least in the planning stages (i.e. a visit has been requested and a speaker has been identified and contacted)
      • Demonstration of increased student awareness of the STP based on number of STP student memberships and student applications for awards, externships, and/or scholarships (this is relative to previous metrics from the institution)

STP Speakers/Training Institution Program (STIP)

The goal of the STIP initiative is to increase career development and educational interactions between STP and training institutions in North America, including those that have historically had fewer interactions with Toxicologic Pathologists. To address this overall goal, the STP has established a speakers program wherein STP members travel to training institutions to present toxicologic pathology and career focused talks to pathology trainees.
